SITUATION
Nicole, a 24-year-old law student, came to KIRO after injuring her right shoulder while lunging to catch a laptop she accidentally dropped. She immediately experienced sharp, deep shoulder pain, difficulty lifting her arm, and noticeable weakness. Even simple tasks like carrying books, reaching overhead for shelves, or typing at her desk aggravated the pain.
Although Nicole had no prior shoulder issues, the sudden trauma caused both discomfort and anxiety about worsening the injury. She had tried resting the arm and applying ice, but daily activities, studying, and carrying her heavy backpack still provoked pain. TREATMENT

Weakness was noted in shoulder abduction and external rotation, consistent with rotator cuff strain.

These findings guided a 3-month personalized care plan to reduce pain, restore safe shoulder movement, and strengthen the rotator cuff and stabilizing muscles.
Care began with twice-weekly chiropractic adjustments targeting the shoulder, upper back, and neck, paired with gentle joint mobilization and soft tissue therapy to reduce inflammation and tension.
